Due to technical issues we were not able to record the sermon for tonight.  Please find the sermon text below:

In the branch of philosophy known as LOGIC, there is a law theory called “THE LAW OF RATIONALITY.”  It boils down to one premise: For any conclusion to be considered as TRUTH, there must be adequate evidence.  This is similar to the Prime Facie Case that we discussed last week.

In logic you have a premise or premises that lead to a conclusion.  For example:

The universe shows evidence of a design.  A design must have a designer, therefore…The universe must have a designer.   You cannot have a poem without a poet, a painting without a painter, a statue without a sculptor.  The issue between a believer and an unbeliever can be stated as this: “Is there enough design in nature to prove a designer?

The universe operates on laws which enable us to predict eclipses, follow comets, travel in space, and even land on the moon.  While unbelievers will admit that these are examples of orderliness and complexity, they are unwillingto say that there is a designer.  So the question becomes; “IS THERE ENOUGH EVIDENCE TO PROVE A DESIGN AND DESIGNER?”

-The observable universe is 93 billion light years in diameter.

-Light travels just shy of 6 trillion miles in a year.

So to travel the length of just the Milky Way, it would take light 100,000 years!

Let’s scale this down.  If you put two dots one inch apart representing the sun and the earth on a map of the Milky Way, you would need a map 25,000 miles wide just to reach the next nearest star to the earth.

The earth is 93 million miles from the sun.  If it were 10 million miles closer, it would be too hot to live on; 10 million miles farther away it would be too cold.  At certain points in the earth’s orbit around the sun, it moves 1/10th of an inch closer every 18 miles. If it moved 1/9th of an inch closer, it would be too hot.  1/9th farther away, it would be too cold.

If the moon, which controls the tides, were 1/5th closer to the earth, the tides would be anywhere from 30 to 50 feet high over most of the earth on a daily basis.

If given the option between choosing that the earth was designed by a designer or a “happy accident” as Physicist Richard Dawkins loves to claim, which would RATIONAL people choose?  Statistics and probability heavily favor the former…Is that enough of a physics lesson for you all? Great! Let’s switch gears for a moment to genetics.

Does a book just happen?  Do pictures and words in this book just appear from nowhere?  Do the pages themselves just magically appear?  Does the book bind itself?

A strand of DNA contains the biological instructions to make each individual unique.  DNA is basically the book or blueprint for the entire human body and all the functions there of.  If you took all the information in one human DNA strand, it would fill 300 books, with each book being over 2.000 pages long.

Some studies show that the human body may contain upwards of 100 trillion cells.  Some cells are so small it would take 20,000 of them just to type a lower case ‘O.”   If all the cells in your body were laid end to end, they would circle the earth 200 times.  If all the strands of DNA in all the cells were laid end to end, they would go to the sun and back 400 times.

To embrace the science yet to deny a designer is the epitome of IRRATIONAL THOUGHT.  Yet science prides itself on RATIONAL THOUGHT.   To say there is no designer is to DENY THE LAW OF RATIONALITY, WHICH BOTH THE SCIENTIST AND THE UNBELIEVER SAY THEY ARE MOST RATIONAL OF ALL.

Genesis 1:  26 - 27  Then God said, “Let us make humans in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.’  27 So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

AMEN.  Grace and Peace to you from God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ.  Amen.
