The U.S. Constitution is the supreme law of the Land and has been that since 1789. It has served us well for 232 years, The Constitution lays out our form of government and it also has amendments that help us to understand the Constitution.

The first ten amendments to the Constitution are called the “Bill of Rights.” These rights do not come from government. These rights are what people are born with and the belief is that these rights will protect the individual’s freedom FROM
GOVERNMENT ABUSE.

The First Amendment says, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;
” When Thomas Jefferson was asked about this during his term as president he said, ““Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should ‘make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,’ thus building a wall of separation between Church & State. Adhering to this expression of the supreme will of the nation in behalf of the rights of conscience, I shall see with sincere satisfaction the progress of those sentiments which tend to restore to man all his natural rights, convinced he has no natural right in opposition to his social duties.”

As governors, mayors, congressmen, and even presidents are telling churches they cannot hold worship services or in home Bible studies; I think Jefferson’s words are very wise and timely. I think people on all levels of government need to hear and to understand, that our rights, our freedom comes from God, (even if you don’t believe in God) and that the right to exercise our faith is NOT CONTROLLED by “wanna be” tyrants.

To surrender the right to worship is the first step in taking away all of our rights and making us believe that government gives us our rights. The Word of God says, “FOR FREEDOM, CHRIST HAS SET US FREE.” What God has given us, let no one, including government take away from us.
