Kevin's Testimony

Kevin's Mission Trip to Kansas City

In the summer of 2008, several volunteers from Immanuel Lutheran Church went to Kansas City on a mission trip.  The following testimony illustrates how God used that trip to change the life of one young man.

I want to start by saying that this was my first mission trip and I had heard a lot about them in the past from Pastor and others that had gone on them before. So on my trip to Kansas City, I was very excited to have one of those moments when you feel God working through you. I was fortunate enough to have a few moments throughout the week!
Our theme for the week was that we were supposed to “jump” with God. Knowing that if, we believed and trusted in him 100%, we could accomplish many things through him.
During the week, we went to a few different mission sites. One of them was a nursing home. One of my weaknesses is that I am not very good at going up to people and being able to create conversation. Which of course, was exactly what they wanted us to do. Remembering the theme of the week, I knew that God would give me the right words to say.
I met many amazing people in that nursing home: photographers with incredible photos hanging in their room, war veterans with their astounding life stories, and many others. One man that I talked to was one of the former war veterans. He had some great things to say and we talked for about 30 minutes. When I was leaving, he told me: “Son, you are the first person to talk to me outside of the staff that work here in the last 4 years. Thank you so much for doing this.” That moment really touched my life. I couldn’t believe that his family had just dropped him off in that nursing home and had just left him there! The feeling in my heart that day was one that I had never experienced before but I hope to again. The Holy Spirit rushed through me and I was as happy as I had ever been in my life. The thing that I took away from this mission trip was that just 30 minutes of our time can change someone else’s life.
I took so much away from this mission trip and love to share about it.
Thanks,
Kevin
