St. Louis Mission Trip
Immanuel Lutheran Church sent 10 high school youth and 3 adults to St Louis, Missouri for a Youthworks mission trip. YouthWorks coordinated the different venues for us to work at and also organized the lodging, food and activities. While in St. Louis, we helped in a shelter, a daycare for low income people, an organization that assists refugees, a kitchen that provides meals for people at/below the poverty level, and a nursing home. We were assigned a variety of tasks like cleaning, playing with kids, painting, cooking/delivering meals, yard work, moving donated items, and helping with the activities of the elderly. Our youth were able to see the needs of those they helped as well as experience the joy of helping others. They had fun helping others and meeting new friends since they were usually on a crew with people from other churches. Two churches in Minnesota and one in Wisconsin had youth/adults there with us for the week. So not only did we meet some people of the St Louis communities, but we made new friends with others who came to serve with us. At night we were able to do some fun activities like visiting the Arch, the park, and a community church service. The people we helped were very appreciative and in some cases provided beverages and an ice cream treat to show their appreciation. Each day we also had some Bible time and a worship service with the other church members there for the week. All in all, everyone had a good experience and communities in St Louis were able to receive the grace of God through the service of the people who went on this trip. The support of our congregational members is much appreciated.
